Our daily routine is something we live by! However, over the summer (even thought we were still actively using our Mother Goose Time Curriculum, our routine went out the window. I am overjoyed to get back on our schedule!
One of the hardest adjustments was our sleeping schedules, especially since we live in the very hot desert! During the day it was getting up to 115-120 degrees outside so we switched up our outside time. Normally we would get up, eat breakfast and then get right into our school work, but since it gets so hot during the day we would go right outside after breakfast. The high temperatures also changed up our evening playtime. We would wait until the sun was almost down before going back outside. The evenings here are beautiful and comical. When it feels cool at the raging temperature of 93 degrees, you have officially acclimated to the desert climate. Needless to say, playing outside after dark would push our bedtimes back by and hour and a half and sometimes two hours. We are slowly getting back to our normal bedtimes. This is going to still take a little bit of time because we are still dealing with warm afternoons.
Since we are just using MGT for our one child we have a more flexible schedule. My current plan is to still keep the morning playtime, then come in for our first break, eat a small snack and start circle time. We then go right into the activities planned for that day. I usually try to get everything done at that point, but with a very strong willed three year old, that can be tough. If he is having an extra vibrant day then we will take a break for lunch and try to finish our days lessons plans. I will tell you though, this doesn't always happen. There have been many times through out our time with MGT that we have finished a lesson the next day or have done two lessons in one day. That is the beauty of this curriculum. The teachers guide is just that, a guide. You can follow it word for word or you can change it up to the mood and style of your kiddos.
We started with Mother Goose Time a few months before the summer and Max has loved every minute of it. I have noticed the more we talk about new subjects and new stories within the curriculum he has asked more questions and has wanted to learn the five W's about all types of things. We have tried traditional preschool and he did not excel the way he has at home with MGT and myself. Now we have added the More Math and More Literacy into our daily activities and he is very intrigued. He also liked that he has his own "homework" that he is able to do while his older brother is doing his school work.
Week one has been great, but I hope that week two goes even better! Lots of coffee, patience and maybe some wine in the evenings are in my future!
