Organization is what keeps me in check! I am a stay at home mom with two wonderful boys of whom we home school. I am also a part time college student (online classes are the bomb), a part time writer for our local newspaper and I run my own little side business. You could say I am one busy mama! One of the biggest things that I love about Mother Goose Time Curriculum is that the lessons are already planned for me. I can just open the box and get moving. Well, kind of. I wanted to share with my awesome community a little part of my prepping for the next month.
First off, I would not be able to function without my paper planner! I have tried so hard to use my phone and my digital calender, but I always go back to the good old paper! I color coordinate pens colors for each person in our family as well as highlighters for when tasks are done, migrated to another day or I no longer think that I need to do that.
Back to the curriculum! The first thing I like to do is read through the teachers tool bag. Here it walks me through the lessons as well as what developmental skills we will be working with this month. Once I finish reviewing all that, I put the lesson plans to the side and everything else from the teachers tool bag goes in my top drawer.
Then I replace our calender, and seek and find picture on our daily board. I also punch out all the dates for the calendar and hang our topic web for the month.
Next I start going through each lesson. I read what we are going to do each day, cut out anything I need to for that day and then place everything for that particular lesson in its own drawer. This is great because I don't have to think about anything! I just have to open the drawer and grab the packet for the day! ( Side note: I do refill my drawers every Sunday and make sure everything is set for me.) This is fantastic because my husband has been able to fill in for me when I am not able to get to school with our 3 year old for that day. Then whatever doesn't fit in the drawers, goes in the bottom.
And that's it! I feel that if you are prepared and ready for the day, it makes going through the curriculum that much easier!. A couple suggestions I can make is; make sure to cut everything out that you can ahead of time; gather the supplies needed for the lesson you are teaching before you start with the kids; and really have fun with it! Jump like a frog when the kids are and growl like a lion when the kids are! They will enjoy it that much more when they see you enjoying yourself too!
